Held a hostage to ransom?

Been forced into marriage?

◆ For The Good Of Nova

How to unlock

In order to be forced into marriage you must have a low enough noble approval rating to lose the vote of no confidence at the Grand Ball. Avoid taking classes in Royal Demeanor or Conversation to increase the likelihood of angering the other nobles. For specifics on decreasing favor, see the options listed in Faced a civil war? which occur before Week 17.

  • Week 9: If given the choice, opt to attempt negotiations with the Ixionites. This choice will be automatically selected for you if you have not trained any military skills at all.

Found a spare Lumen crystal?

◆ A Little Backup

How to unlock

You must have become a Lumen before you are able to take a spare crystal.

-OR-

 ♣ Faced a civil war?

◆ A Land Divided

How to unlock

The approval rating of the Novan nobles must be sufficiently low by Week 29 to cause Arisse to begin a civil war against you. There are no specific events which will cause the war to begin, so it's important to act in ways that generally disrespect the nobility to keep your approval low. Avoid taking classes in Royal Demeanor or Conversation. The following is an incomplete list of actions that will anger the nobility.

  • Week 9: (Court Manners ≥ 10) If you are wearing the gift from Talarist you received during Week 5, you can confirm Banion's suspicions that you are engaged which will displease him. You do not need to actually accept when Talarist visits.
  • Week 10: When the delegation from Ixion arrives, surrender the province to them or (Foreign Affairs ≥ 20) punish Brin for her past actions. This will anger Banion.
  • Week 13: You stand in judgement of a woman who attempted to murder Corisande. You can either put her to work or (Internal Affairs = 100 and Court Manners < 60) tell her justice has already been done to anger Kevan.
  • Week 17: (Presence < 50 and Elegance < 50 and Composure < 50 and Decoration < 50 and Court Manners + Flattery < 60) Fail all checks during the Grand Ball to avoid impressing or passifying any of the nobles.
  • Note: Since you have likely angered Banion during Week 10 you can expect him to challenge you during Week 17 at the ball. Since you are working on a poor noble approval rating, it is important to avoid him calling a vote of no confidence since you are unlikely to win it. You can (Composure ≥ 20) ignore his jibe or (Swords ≥ 70 and Athletics ≥ 40) defeat him in a duel. If you executed Brin and faced an assassination attempt the week before you may also (Ciphering ≥ 60) accuse him of attempting to kill you.
  • Week 24: If you had the option to order your agents to be on the look out for noble plots in Week 18 and chose to do so, they will have word for you of a potential civil war brewing. Sending assassins to deal with it will avoid the civil war entirely, so if you have this event be sure to deal with it another way.
  • Week 27: (Court Manners < 80) Turn down the invitation to Gwenelle's party rudely. (Note: The skill check for being impolite does not occur until Week 28.)
  • Week 29: Provided you have angered enough of your fellow nobles, civil war will break out this week.

Been challenged to a duel?

◆ The Gauntlet Thrown

How to unlock
If either Briony or Arisse are dead for whatever reason by Week 33, Kevan of Io will challenge you to a duel after the tournaments are over. In order for this to occur, you must have participated in one of the events of the tournament. You will not be presented with the duel challenge if you select "None" when prompted to choose an event. You do not have to win the duel, nor do you have to accept the challenge in order to receive the achievement.

Ordered an execution?

◆ Off With Their Heads

How to unlock
Order the death of anyone in the game. However, the player will receive cruelty points if they take this course of action. Possible options are as follows:
  • On Week 7, if Julianna is still in the dungeon, you may visit her on the weekend and you may order her execution. This, however, will result in a death, as Julianna will strangle you with magical chains if you try to do so.
  • On Week 10, if you meet with the diplomat from Ixion and pass the Foreign Affairs 20 check, you will unlock the option to "Offer to Punish the Duchess of Hellas". When asked what you will do to her, choose "Execute her". Her brother, however, will be furious with you and will try to ruin you from then on.
  • On Week 13, you will be asked to stand in judgment of an attempted murderess. When prompted to do so, order her execution. No special checks or choices prior to this will bar you from being able to make this choice.
  • On Week 17, if Banion is angry with you he will provoke you. You may then order his execution. If you fail the checks required, he will call for a vote of confidence. However, if you executed his sister on Week 10, survived the assassination attempt on Week 16 and successfully passed the Ciphering 60 check, you can safely accuse him of sending assassins and execute him without the vote of confidence. If you used magic on Week 10, survived the assassination attempt on Week 16, passed the Ciphering check AND passed the Court Manners check, you will consider your next move. Select "Accuse Him" and you will be tested on Court Manners again (if you passed the first one, you will pass the second one). Passing it will allow you to consider your options. You will then receive the option to execute him again.
  • On Week 20, you will be called to stand in judgment of a man who killed his wife. When prompted to make a decision, select "Execute him". No special checks are needed to unlock this option.
  • On Week 26, there is the possibility that Adair will have been assassinated. You may choose to blame the Earl of Ishtar and execute him. This is only possible if you sent Adair to live with his grandfather on Week 22.
  • On Week 36, if you won the naval battle, you may have prisoners. You can choose to "Ransom the rich, execute the poor" or "Execute them all!" This is only available if you won the naval battle, but it doesn't matter how you win.
  • On Week 37, you may have a whole BUNCH of opportunities to achieve the execution badge! If you hired Sabine as a spy and you sent her to investigate the poisoned chocolates, you are given information after the confrontation with Togami. There are several ways of handling this. First, if your father is dead and your main emotion is NOT depression (somehow), you can choose "Execute them all". Second, if your father is NOT dead, choose "Decide Lucille is Guilty" and from there, decide who dies! Or, if your father is NOT dead and you have the option to choose "Ask About Charlotte's powers" to determine if the spy is lying, do this and afterwards, decide who dies! Lastly, if you decide the spy is lying, you can execute her too!

Achieved a naval victory?

◆ Victory At Sea

How to unlock
1) Avoid war beforehand at all costs to spare as much soldiers as possible. The easier method for the Ixion threat is to wear Talarist's necklace and Bluff/Intimidate the Ixion Diplomat in Week 10 and then "Threaten to attack" (Will succeed with Presence > 60). You can also choose to give up the Province and have Court Manners ≥ 60 by Week 35 to successfully request aid. To avoid civil war, do things that please nobles like refusing to raise taxes and siding with the nobles during conflicts.

2) To have enough ships, either ask your father to hire agents overseeing foreign threats (requires high Intrigue, around week 18 or 24); or have high Logistics and Trade by week 25 to have a warning about the threat before hand; or surrender the province to Ixion in week 10 and have high Court Manners to request their aid.

3) Rank high in all Military skills, especially Naval Strategy; Climbing and Wield Magic gives you a higher chance as well.

4) When offered a chance to recruit soldiers (tournament, prisoners, falling star omen, allies) or build ships, always say yes.

5) Do not use the concert method with other Lumens.

6) Command the fleet.

How to unlock

Have very high cruelty by always doing aggressive actions (killing people, killing animals via Hunting while angry), lose the naval battle, then offer an alliance with Togami (then kill your father).

To have that option at the time of Togami duel there are three choices (all are related to the need to know that you may lend the lumen power to someone and the ability to do that):

  1. Have a spare lumen crystal on hand which you've discussed with your mentor.
  2. Be a lumen and have Lore ≥ 90.
  3. Arrive at that point after failed attempt to sink the fleet with magic. Really hard to do that: first you must survive the attempt and not die, then your fleet must still fail to stop the invasion. Most likely could only happen after a civil war.

If you are attempting to get this achievement with low Approval from Nobles and/or Commoners, pass a Poison ≥ 70 check and force him to eat a cookie first. In an unstable Nova, the epilogue will see him named royal taste-tester, and you will marry him from there.

----------

Alternatively, to romance Alice, who will count as a commoner, commit cruel acts (execute people, blast people with magic, force Alice to take your gifts, dance with Alice on week 17, go hunting on the weekends when angry (+1 cruelty) or afraid (+.5 cruelty). When you have the option to choose who you will marry, don't choose anyone. Alice will be mentioned in the Epilogue.

◆ The Needs Of The Many

Cruel way.

Know Aunt Lucille's secret, and preferably kill her at the ball.
Make sure your cruelty is high. Yell at servants, execute people whenever possible, hunt while having Angry 1, and destroy rivals with magic when challenged to duels to increase cruelty.

Failed coup d'état investigation.

If you receive the poisoned chocolated and live till the next day then Elodie will employ your spy (if you have her) to investigate. She'll go away and will return just in time for the next part.

Have enough Lumen to destroy the fleet with magic. You must be a Lumen yourself, you must know about the existence of at least two other Lumen, and you must be able to pull off the destruction without dying.

After this, your father will inform you that a kraken has appeared. You can choose to seal it or sacrifice yourself. if you know that Lucille is a lumen from encounter at gala and your cruelty is high enough (Cruelty  10) OR if you know that Lucille is not just a lumen but that she was plotting your demise (there are not cruelty check in that case) then you realise that Charlotte is an alternative and will have the option to sacrifice Charlotte instead.
